Director Maha Venkatesh’s C/O Kancharapalem has its heart in the right place and was critically-acclaimed. The film, presented by Rana Daggubati, was one of the most loved films of 2017.
The film is a tale of five love stories of people belonging to different age groups. Actress and producer Praveena Paruchuri, who is also the producer of the film, had sent the film for Indian Nation Awards Committee.
To their shock, the film was rejected by the committee citing that it is produced by an NRI. Praveen is dejected and took to Twitter to share her feelings. She said that it is not about winning the award but about qualifying for it.
Praveen wrote, “SO SORRY @venkateshmaha25 # CareOfKancharapalem, your hard work, and talent is NOT ELIGIBLE to be recognized at the #indiannationalfilmawards because it was Produced by me- a US citizen although of Indian origin …I failed you (sic)”
The director of C/o Kancharapalem states that the age-old rules need to change. “It’s not you @paruchurimd, it’s the outdated rules and regulations of our country. I don’t understand why an Indian film, made by an Indian director, in India, acted by Indians and for Indian audience is not eligible for Indian National Awards (sic).”
