C/o Kancherapalem director decided to remake a Malayalam film as his second directorial venture. Do you know why?

Young filmmaker Venkatesh Maha shot to fame with his debut film C/o Kancherapalem. Shot with a relatively new cast and crew, this movie went on to win a lot of accolades at the international level. It was also a successful venture at the box office. Now, he is coming up with his new film Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya. This film is an official remake of the Malayalam drama Maheshinte Prathikaram. On explaining why he chose to remake this film, Venkatesh Maha stated that just like classic literature, even films with good content can get remade for the people to savor. He added that cinema is literature for him.

Earlier today, a fan on Twitter asked Maha about his reason behind choosing a remake as his second film. He further stated that many Telugu viewers have watched Maheshinte Prathikaran on OTT platforms. Responding to it, Maha wrote, "I understand your urge to watch original content in Telugu. The reason why Nannayya, Thikkanna and Yeranna remade Mahabharata into Telugu is the same reason I made a remake. Classic Literature can be translated for different language people to savor. For me #CinemaIsLiterature." "I was and am happy in making this project. Don’t take too much into your heart. If you already watched Mahesh in Malayalam and don’t want to watch its remake, that’s fine. I can understand. This is for people who didn’t watch it. Wait till my next film which is my screenplay," he further added. Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya features Satya Dev in the lead role. The release details of this film will be out once the lockdown gets over.
