Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many films are now opting for a direct digital release. As the shoots are on a halt and the theaters got shut down, makers are opting for an OTT release. From the last few weeks, it is being reported in media that Jayalalitha's upcoming biopic Thalaivi, starring Kangana Ranaut will also have an OTT release. However, the makers have made it clear that it will only hit the OTT platforms after having a theatrical run.
Speaking in a recent interview, Kangana Ranaut said that the digital rights of Thalaivi got sold for a huge amount. However, she confirmed that it will be available on digital platforms only after having a theatrical run. Thalaivi is in the final stages of its shoot. The makers will resume the shooting works once they get permission from the government. Kangana Ranaut is undergoing a physical transformation for this movie. She is considering it as one of her ambitious projects.
Thalaivi is being directed by AL Vijay. Baahubali writer Vijayendra Prasad has given the screenplay of it. Aravind Swami is playing the role of MG Ramachandran while Prakash Raj is essaying the character of Karunanidhi in this film. Initially, the makers planned to release the film on June 26. That is not at all possible now. We hear that it will hit the screens in early 2021. Thalaivi will have a simultaneous release in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. It is being bankrolled by Vishnu Induri.
