Makers of Cheat India preponed the movie release date as they didn't want to clash with Thackeray biopic. Central Board of Film Certification came up with an objection to change the film title. T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment then renamed the movie title from Cheat India to Why Cheat India.
It is said that promotional material was already cleared by the CBFC with the previous title, the Examining Committee that raised an objection to change the title of the film. Committee thought that the title Cheat India is very misleading and harsh. Makers and Committee entered into a lengthy discussion regarding the same. After lengthy discussion makers had convinced and accepted to change the title to Why Cheat India. Also, the film censored with U/A certificate.
Also, the makers of the film came up with the following statement: "The CBFC had concerns about the title Cheat India. We had an extensive conversation with the Examining Committee and Revising Committee regarding the proposed change as the film has been in public domain for a year, and more importantly, because the theatrical teaser, trailer, and television promos had already been certified with the original title. This would lead to dual communication a week before the release. The duress of lack of time left us with no choice but to mutually agree to the new title, Why Cheat India."
"Why Cheat India" is all set to hit the screens on Jan18th. Emraan Hashmi and Shreya Dhanwarthary will be seen in the lead roles. This film is directed by Soumik Sen and produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Tanuj Garg’s Ellipsis Entertainment. The promos and songs released by the unit attracting the cine-goers.
