Akshay Oberoi, who impressed his fans with his role as a lawyer in the Voot Select show Illegal, speaks about the kind of recognition he's been getting post the success. He said, "I'm surprised that the show is receiving a great response. I've done a lot of work and you just don't know which one of your projects gets people to notice you. So, I always pick projects which interest me. I don't really think about the result. So it was a pleasant surprise to see such fondness for Illegal. My role in the show is less about what he does on the job but more about his relationship with mother, father, wife, and girlfriend. There are so many testing relationships which actually excited me."
While success doesn't come easy, he further talks about how he prepared himself for the role. "I don't wear suits. I wear tees and jeans and I'm very sloppy and don't sit properly. I thought for a lawyer who actually owns such a large law firm won't be like me. For instance, in Gurgaon, I had to find a voice for Nikki Singh because he's a sociopathic murderer and definitely can't sound like me. Just like that, I had to find a hook for Akshay Jaitley. So when I saw Harvey (Gabriel Macht from Suits), I found his walk perfect for my role. Other things are totally different so I couldn't have picked anything else", he said.
After working with some of the stellar actresses like Neha Sharma
, Disha Patani
, Radhika Apte
, etc, Akshay expresses his wish to work with Taapsee Pannu
. "I would really love to work with Taapsee. I love Taapsee's work and I think she picks really interesting movies. So let's see what happens."
However, just like other actors, Akshay says he's been hit by the current scenario in the industry. He said he's spending time at home with his 3-year old kid and working as a "full-time father" who doesn't know what's going to happen to his future projects. Meanwhile, the 35- year-old actor is trying his best to defy boredom in this lockdown. "I have this weird kick of watching old classic movies which I love. Like I watched Trishul and Casino. All these movies inspired me as a kid to be an actor. Watching them again is like finding that excitement all over again. I feel this scenario is perfect to sit and reflect on why you chose certain things. The kind of actor you want to be coming from some of the great veteran actors like Bachchan Sahab (Amitabh Bachchan) and Robert De Niro.
