Karan Johar is the son of Bollywood producer and director Yash Johar. He made his debut into the film industry as an assistant director for the 1995 film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. He has also acted in a small role in this film. He then made his directorial debut with the 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. This Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Kajol Devgan starrer film went on to become a huge blockbuster at the box office. His second movie was the 2001 family entertainer Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham. Even this film was a huge hit. Then, he came up with Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna in 2006, My Name is Khan in 2010, Student of the Year in 2012 and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016.
As a producer, Karan delivered many hit films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Dostana, Agneepath, Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2 States, Kapoor, and Sons, Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, Raazi, Simmba, Kesari and Good Newz. Karan has also directed segments in the anthology films Bombay Talkies, Lust Stories, and Ghost Stories.
