“I Don’t Know Who AR Rahman Is; Bharat Ratna Is Equal To My Father’s Toenail”: Balakrishna With A Controversial Statement

Balakrishna has hit news headings often with his controversial opinions. In a recent viral video, Telugu actor and MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna make a controversial statement about AR Rahman. Balakrishna says he does not even know who AR Rahman is. The video is from a recent interview he gave to a regional Telugu channel.

In the interview with the Telugu channel, he stated that he has no idea who Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is. He also stated that the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, is equal to his father, NTR’s “toenail.” “I don’t know who AR Rahman is. I don’t care. Once in a decade, he gives a hit and gets an Oscar award.” the 61-year-old actor told the television channel. It is notable that AR Rahman wrote the music for Nandamuri Balakrishna's Nippu Ravva (1993).

He adds; “All these awards are equal to my foot. No award can compensate for the contribution of my family to Telugu cinema. I feel Bharat Ratna is equal to NTR’s toenail. The awards must feel sad, not my family or my father.”

As the hashtag #WhoIsBalakrishna began trending on social media, countless Balakrishna fans rallied for his support. Some of his supporters talked about his cancer treatment project. Others referenced his political history to address the question, "Who is Balakrishna?"

Meanwhile, Balakrishna said he considers himself better than the Hollywood director James Cameron. “I like to wrap up my shootings quickly unlike that Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron, who takes years to complete a film. The way I work, I do more hit films in less time;" he said in the interview.
