Karnam Malleshwari is one of the popular sports personalities in India. She is also the first Indian sportswoman to win an Olympic medal. Now, a biopic is being made on her life. This project got announced just a few days ago. The lead actor in this film is yet to get finalized. Speaking about it, Malleshwari says that she wants someone passionate about sports to play her role in the film.
Speaking in an interview with the Times of India, Malleshwari said that she leaves the decision of choosing the lead to the makers. She feels that they are the right ones to judge the actors. But whoever is playing the role, she wants them to be passionate about the sport. Malleshwari opined that people often don't look beyond cricket in our country. There are many struggles other sportsmen who deserve to get told on the big screen. Malleshwari said that it was not easy for a girl like her to take up wrestling and weightlifting as a profession during those times. She had to face gender and class discrimination to achieve her goal. Even after winning a bronze medal in the 2000 Olympics, Malleshwari didn't get many rewards for the achievement. The government had offered her land but never gifted it. Malleshwari has no regrets anything about her life and is happy with her achievements.
This biographical drama will get directed by Sanjana Reddy. Kona Venkat and MVV Satyanarayana will be bankrolling the project.
