Sivaji remains a special film in Superstar Rajinikanth's career for many reasons. This is the first film in the combination of Rajini and director Shankar. Both of them later worked on the films Enthiran and 2.0. Sivaji was a super hit at the box office. Today, the film celebrates its 13th release anniversary. On this occasion, here is a look back into it.
 
Sivaji featured Shriya Saran in the lead role. AVM Productions had bankrolled the project. The story of the film revolves around an NRI who returns to India to set up a company here. However, he faces a set back due to the corruption that exists in every level of the government. How he fought against this corrupt system forms the main plot of the film. Telugu actor Suman played the role of an antagonist in the movie. This was his first film as a villain.
 
Music maestro AR Rahman composed the music of this movie. Songs like Vaaji Vaaji, Sahana, and Athiradee became chartbusters at that time. Even the Telugu and Hindi albums received a positive response from the audiences. Upon its release, Sivaji received a unanimous positive response from the people across the country. It got huge openings and ran successfully across many centers. Eventually, the film became a blockbuster at the box office. Sivaji won a National Award for Best Special Effects. It won three Filmfare Awards, for Cinematography, Art direction, and Music direction. Sivaji was later re-released in the 3D in 2012.
