If you take out the list of the Telugu director who made memorable comedy films, EVV Satyanarayana will definitely get a place in it. Such was the impact created by him. Not only comedy films, but EVV has also made quite a few powerful family dramas. In a career spanning over two decades, EVV has given us many memorable films. Today is the birth anniversary of this iconic director. On this occasion, let us take a look back into his career.
EVV Satyanarayana was born in Dommeru village of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. His elder brothers used to work as still photographers in Tollywood. Thus, EVV got an interest in films at a very early age. Thus, he couldn't concentrate on studies and focused on filmmaking. He made his directorial debut with the 1990 film Chevilo Puvvu. This Rajendra Prasad starrer movie became a flop at the box office. However, EVV bounced back in the same year by delivering a blockbuster with Prema Khaidi. Then, there was no looking back for him. He went on to score many hits in the 90s, like Appula Apparao, Aa Okkati Adakku, Varasudu, Jamba Lakidi Pamba, Hello Brother, Aame, Alluda Majaka, Chilakkottudu, Thaali, Intlo Illalu Vantintlo Priyuralu, Maa Nannaku Pelli, Maavidakulu and Aavida Maa Aavide.
He made his Bollywood debut with the 1999 film Sooryavansham, starring Amitabh Bachchan
in the lead role. Even in the 2000s, he delivered massive hits like Chala Bagundi, Thotti Gang, Evadi Gola Vaadidhi, Kitha Kithalu, Bendu Apparao RMP and Kathi Kantha Rao. His last film was the 2010 release Buridi. EVV died in 2011 due to a cardiac arrest. Even though he is not amongst us right now, his films are still carrying his legacy forward.
