It’s that time of the year, where we look back at everything that took place and went trending. On checking the twitter hashtags, a few hashtags made it to the league and the top one is #Sarkar.
Vijay's Sarkar proved to be a trendsetter of sorts with its share of controversy both before and after its release. The film was embroiled in allegations over its story being copied and the original writer wanting his name to be mentioned in the credits before its release while post release, it saw Tamil Nadu's politicians protesting against certain scenes depicting people throwing government freebies in the fire - seen as a jab at the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu known for distributing mixers, grinders and so on during elections. The ruling party protested against the name of one of the characters in the name saying that it was the birth name of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa. All this attention seems to have taken Sarkar to the top of the 10 most popular hashtags in India on Twitter of 2018 list of 2018. #Sarkar beat other popular hashtags such as #MeToo, #Kaala, #Whistlepodu, #BigBossTelugu2 to reach the top spot.
