Generally, when it comes to remaking Movies, Directors tend to stick with the original script as much as possible. But with Kavacha Movie, the remake of the 2016 Malayalam hit Movie Oppam, director GVR Vasu worked on the script for 7-8 months, altering it to appeal to Kannada audiences. As a result, around 50% of the film is completely different to the Original Version. Kavacha is an emotional & action-thriller.
Director GVR Vasu Telling about the changes he made to the script, Vasu says, “Malayalam and Kannada audiences are different, which is why I took my time with altering the script. Since I had a ready script, I could look at what worked and didn’t with the original, and alter it accordingly. Action and thriller elements are enhanced in Kavacha, as are emotions. But none of this was done with the intention of introducing a change; the change in genre was simply an outcome.”
GVR Vasu worked as assistant director to Ram Gopal Varma's movie Killing Veerappan, since that movie Vasu shared a good rapport with Shivarajkumar. And he was also aware of the fact that the Century Star had been turning down remake offers for years. “But when I approached Shivarajkumar for Kavacha, he liked the script narration in a single sitting. That is the extent to which the film differs from the original. This is the first remake he is doing in 14 years of his film career,” says Vasu.
GVR Vasu also added that 'We have sold the satellite right to Star Suvarna for Rs 3.5 crore and music rights to Zee Music for Rs 43 lakh'. This is the highest amount received for a Shivanna movie in recent times.
