Star Wars: Why David Benioff and Dan Weiss left the directing position for one of Disney's largest franchises. Over the last few weeks, much has reported about the departure of the Game of Thrones director duo from the Star Wars franchise. Sometimes a little before the release of the final season of Game of Thrones news surfaced that David Benioff and Dan Weiss will involve with a new Star Wars film. However earlier last Monday the Game of Thrones director duo has officially left the position. The very size of the Star Wars franchise leaves a big question unanswered.
Some speculated that this departure might be as a result of the failure of the last season of Game of Thrones. Something that the directors openly acknowledged. And might not have sat very well with Disney executives. In their official statement, David and Dan said, "There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away [from Star Wars],"
However, while there is some truth to this statement other sources reveal that this came largely due to the feud between Disney and Netflix. The head of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy who oversees every Star Wars project was also reportedly unhappy with David and Dan. As the directors had accepted another large scale project by Netflix. Neither of the two was happy or satisfied that the directors will be able to do justice. Considering that Game of Thrones was their sole focus when the show was still ongoing.
