The first half of 2018 wasn’t going in Vijay Sethupathi’s way. His films Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren and Junga were damp squibs at the box office. However, the second half of 2018 were phenomenal for him as he had back to back hits in the form of Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and 96.
Now, the actor’s next film Seethakathi with Balaji Tharaneetharan has released today. Though he appears only for 40 minutes in the film, this movie marks Sethupathi’s landmark 25th film.
In an interview to a leading English paper, he said that he faced a financial setback this year and had lost Rs 11 crore for reason he doesn’t know entirely.
Now, rumours are rife that he had lost this huge amount by producing Junga, which is the costliest film in his entire career. Junga, directed by Gokul, was about the life of a stylish yet dumb gangster who heads to Europe to win the love of his life.
The film didn’t perform well as expected and bombed at the box office. It is reported that the actor had to spend his salary from three films to settle the debts. However, there is no official confirmation on the same.
