Karthik returns to India after completing his education in the United States. His mother wants him to get married to her brother`s daughter Indu. A dispute had left both families separated. Karthik promises to fulfill his mother`s wish. He joins Indu`s college to convince her to marry him but mistakenly assumes Bhagyam as his uncle`s daughter. Later, Karthik realises that Indu is his cousin but she is already in love with another guy. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
