Two young women on Monday morning made an attempt to reach the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala, with protesters attempting to disrupt their trek.
The two women, Bindu and Kanakadurga from Kozhikode and Malappuram, reached Pampa by a KSRTC bus and started the trek to the holy hillock with strong police protection. They reached Marakkoottom by 7.30 a.m as police used force to remove the protesters.
Meanwhile, Ms. Bindu and Ms. Kanakadurga said there was no question of retreating from their mission. Ms. Bindu said her mission was to protect the rights of the tribal people and Dalits.
She said many feminist organisations have also extended strong support to them.
Ms. Bindu accused the Sabarimala Tantri too of denying young women the right to worship at the Ayyappa temple.
