Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram now faces arrest by Enforcement Directorate in the INX media case after the Delhi Court was not satisfied with the defence lawyer’s arguments.
Former Union Minister P Chidambaram will be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate tomorrow after a special court agreed to the agency's request for the custodial interrogation of the 74-year-old who has been in Tihar jail since September 5 in the INX Media case.
Initially, the Congress leader had challenged the Delhi High Court's decision to deny him anticipatory bail. However, Chidambaram's lawyers later withdrawn his petition against the INX Media case. With the Delhi Court’s decision, the Enforcement Directorate is now free to arrest him in the INX Media case. The agency, which accuses him of money laundering in the same case, had moved two applications yesterday -- to formally arrest P Chidambaram and seek his custody.
The court on Friday had issued a production warrant for P. Chidambaram on a plea by Enforcement Directorate seeking his custody in the INX Media money laundering case. After all his consistent efforts go in vain, it seems like this Congress leader has nowhere to go but to serve the term. It is just a matter of time. The senior Congress leader is currently in judicial custody.
