The State government's response to Cyclone Gaja came in for praise from the opposition parties on Friday.
While appreciating the precautionary measures taken by the Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Authority, DMK president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin called upon the District Collectors to cooperate with the rescue personnel.
In a statement, he urged the State government to take steps on a war-footing to restore normalcy in flood-affected areas and protect people’s livelihood. Mr. Stalin said it was the duty of the government to ensure that compensation for those who had lost their homes, property and cattle was disbursed quickly.
He pointed out that any delay in relief work would create a situation akin to what happened in 2015. He urged DMK cadre to help in relief efforts.
