As per the notification from the Law Ministry, Sunil Arora aged 62 has been appointed as the new Election Commissioner of India by Ram Nath Kovind. On Monday, he has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner Of India. He will be appearing in his office on 2nd December, after the present Election Commissioner Rawat will be demitting from his service. Rawat started his work as Election Commissioner on 23rd January 2018. Arora being an IAS officer from 1980 batch, had delivered his service in many departments including, Textiles, Finance and Planning Commission. He also became Joint Secretary for Civil Aviation Ministry in the term 1992-2002. In the term 2005-2008, he worked as a Principal secretary to Rajasthan Government. A EC or CEC has a tenure of 6 years or till he reaches 65 years age, which ever comes early.
