One of the biggest superstars in Tamil cinema right now is Thala Ajith. He enjoys a massive fanbase in Tamil Nadu. For Thunivu, Ajith teamed up with director H Vinoth. Prior to release itself, the film has been carrying massive expectations on it. The film was released on 11th January worldwide, for Sankranthi this year. The film is an out and out action entertainer, and features Manju Warrier as the leading lady. The trailer of the film was also very well received by the audiences.
Ghibran has composed the music and background score for the film. This turned out to be one of the major highlights of the film, along with the cinematography of the film. Thunivu released in Telugu as Thegimpu. While the film managed to get decent collections in the Telugu states on the first day, it didn't receive much attention from the 12th. This is because of the release of major Telugu films from the 12th. Thunivu is still strong in Tamil Nadu.
