Director Krish Jagarlamudi’s NTR Kathanayakudu starring Balakrishna, Vidya Balan, Sumanth and Rana Daggubati hit the theatres on January 9 and received positive reviews from critics.
However, the film couldn’t lure in audience to the theatres. NTR Kathanayakudu was sold for Rs 70 crore, which is a staggering amount for a Balakrishna film. Movie had a poor opening on Day 1 and started to crash down from day 2 at box-office. NTR Kathanayakudu continued to stay low at box-office on festival holidays too. After two weeks of disappointing run at box-office NTR Kathnayakudu collected share of Rupees 20 Crs. Movie will end as Epic Disaster in BalaKrishna career and Telugu film industry.
Distributors are pinning their hopes on NTR Mahanayakudu to recover the losses. It is said BalaKrishna has decided that he will give the theatrical rights of NTR Mahanayakudu for free so that the distributors can repay the money after they recover their share. Ballaya knows that distributors may not support him if he sells the rights for higher price.
