Deepika Padukone and Rishi Kapoor will star together in the Hindi remake of the 2015 Hollywood film The Intern, that originally featured Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. Taking to their social media, Deepika and Rishi made the unexpected announcement and released a logo poster along with it.
Deepika who will also co-produce the film tweeted, “Thrilled to present my next! The Indian adaptation of #TheIntern. A 2021 release! Presented by @_KaProductions @warnerbrosindia and @iAmAzure See you at the movies!”
Speaking about the film, the actress said in a statement to a leading daily, "The Intern is an intimate, relationship-driven film, set in and around the workplace; a story that I believe is very relevant to the present-day social and cultural environment. I have been looking for a light, breezy comedy-drama and this story fits in seamlessly. I cannot wait to begin this journey.” Rishi Kapoor tweeted saying, “Moving on to yet another journey with the Indian adaptation of #TheIntern with @deepikapadukone! Produced by @SunirKheterpal and #DeepikaPadukone for @iAmAzure & @_KaProductions in collaboration with @warnerbrosindia @DenzD.” Rishi’s statement on the film read, "'The Intern' is a very relevant film for the present-day Indian workplace milieu and it showcases human relationships beautifully. I am very excited to be working with Deepika and being a part of this heart-warming story."
The film slated for a 2021 release and will mark Deepika’s second production venture after Chhapaak.
Rishi was last seen in the thriller, The Body, co-starring Emraan Hashmi.
