Actors to be fined for misleading ads
Today, almost all actors and actresses endorse a brand in any media platform. Not every actor would do research and endorse a product. Almost everybody does it for money.
However, there is new trouble in endorsing a product. The Parliament has now passed the Consumer Protection Bill 2019 which is a replacement to the Consumer Protection Act 1986.
The new bill has over 106 clauses and pushes the actors and actresses to be responsible while promoting a brand. If the star in a misleading commercial they might need to pay a fine of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.
If the consumer lodged a complaint and manage to prove the defect, it will be a huge blow to the star’s image and on top of it, they will have to pay a fine amount.
