Thank God, directed by Indra Kumar and starring Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra, and Rakul Preet Singh, was released in theatres on Diwali. Thank God was Ajay Devgn's fourth theatrical release and his second as a leading man after Runway 34. The film clashed with Ram Setu on Govardhan Pooja day, which is widely regarded as the busiest ticketing day of the year. On Diwali, the audience's second pick was Thank God, but Ram Setu remained the top pick. Both films had minimal advances but reasonable to strong spot-booking activity throughout the day.
Thank God premiered to lukewarm day-one figures of Rs 8 crores, and the statistics were pitiful given that the picture was released the day after Diwali. Despite having very little competition in terms of large openers, it failed to join the top 5 Hindi openers of 2022. The film's earnings continued to fall daily, as the picture earned an excruciatingly low Rs. 26.70 cr net for its long 6-day weekend.
The picture earned between Rs. 1.6 and 2.1 crores net on its debut Monday, for a week one total of roughly Rs. 28.5 crores net. The picture will not go anywhere with such low figures, and the lifetime collection may be around Rs. 35 crore, which is extremely low not only for a Diwali release but also in general. Even in the worst-case scenario, the picture needed to make at least Rs. 50 crore in its first week, but it did not. Kantara, the Hindi-dubbed picture, began outperforming Thank God on a daily basis during the weekend, and it currently leads by a 50 percent margin.
