AR Murugadoss: Rajinikanth’s Darbar movie is not a political film

Filmmaker AR Murugadoss, after the success of Vijay-starrer Sarkar, teamed up with Rajinikanth for his next. Produced by Lyca Productions, Darbar is all set for a grand release on Pongal 2020.

AR Murugadoss and Rajinikanth’s association go back a long way. When Ghajini released, Rajinikanth called him and appreciated him. The on and off meet-ups translated into a possible film, which is Darbar.

In an interview with Tamil magazine, AR Murugadoss opened up about how they both came together for a film. He said, “I got a call from Rajini sir when Ghajini released. I met him and he congratulated me. But, we didn't talk about doing a film then. Two years later, we met again. This time, he said let's do a film. But, the opportunity got delayed due to unknown reasons. During Sarkar's shooting, I was once again invited to meet him. This time, I was sure that I shouldn't miss out on the opportunity. I narrated the one-liner of the film. I made the changes he suggested in a day and met him the next day. He gave the green signal after a month. Rajinikanth said, "I've never done a film in this pattern. I'm too eager to see the film in theatres"."

Murugadoss assured that Darbar is a commercial film like Rajinikanth’s Alex Pandiyan and not a political film. The film also stars Suneil Shetty, Prateik Babbar, Nayanthara, Nivetha Thomas and Yogi Babu in the lead roles.
