Blackmail becomes a must-watch film at IFFI 2019

Blackmail is a British silent drama directed by Alfred Hitchcock has very little suspense. It was one of Hitchcock's early works and he gets all the appreciations for making it visually interesting with an experimental narrative structure. Humor works only partly. The lighting and camera work is good. Live music provided by Best is in sync and brought liveliness. Many scenes appeared dragged. The direction is good. A must-watch movie by the fans of true master 'Alfred'.

Traumfabrik is s a 2-hour romantic comedy set in the '60s. Even though the film starts in the present age, the story takes us to the partition time of German.

Story-wise, it's a regular love at first sight - romantic flick with regular predictable cliche scenes. How the couple gets United after the construction of the Berlin wall is engaging. The screenplay is decent enough and what made it an enjoyable ride is the performances specifically the leads. The chemistry between the lead pair is fantastic and the comedy worked out well. The cinematography and editing are good. The music is fantastic. The pre-climax looked a bit dragged. If you put logic (how can one write a script in a night and shoot in a day) aside, this rom-com is enjoyable.
