Cannes 2020: Organisers announced that they are coming up with alternatives to a virtual Cannes Festival

COVID-19 has pushed back a lot of events and functions scheduled for 2020. Among the many is the grand Cannes Film Festival. Every year the red carpet of Cannes witnesses an amazing outfit to a particular theme it sets. Celebrities come clad in elaborate outfits and gowns. Though this year it may not be possible. With slim chances of physically hosting the festival, organizers are trying to still make it work. She said they will try to host the screenings later in the year. Reports say the organizers will reveal a couple of film selection in early June. They will collaborate with other festivals such as Venice to showcase the films.

"As of today, a physical edition seems complicated to organize, so we are going forward with an announcement of films from the (initial Official) Selection at the beginning of June," informed a spokesperson for the festival. The spokesperson confirmed all what the director of the festival, Thierry Fremaux, explained during an interview.

Cannes will not be going virtual said the spokesperson. Instead, the organizers will launch a "redeployment outside the walls (of Cannes), in collaboration with fall festivals", In April, the organizers decided and announced that Cannes is canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic. Since then its team is on its feet trying to find suitable alternatives.

The director, Fremaux said that the team will not release all the films from the list of Official Selection, including out of competition and Un Certain Regard but instead he will reveal the films set to release "in between now and next spring". The films will have a 'Cannes 2020' label.

These 'labeled' films will showcase at festivals such as Toronto, Deauville, Angouleme, San Sebastian, New York, Busan, and Lumière festival. The process of selection for next year will start later this year. The films set to release and considered for this year will get added to the 2021 list.
