COVID-19: Actors Suriya and Karthi donate to FEFSI Workers

The coronavirus pandemic has literally brought the world to a halt with countries shutting their borders and industries. The pandemic has had a huge impact on film industries across the globe. With the announcement of a lockdown till the end of March in Tamil Nadu, the contract workers of Kollywood seem to be in shackles. With all film shoots shutting down, they are now left with no source of income for a long period of time. In this time of crisis, Suriya, Karthi and their dad Sivakumar have come forward to help. They have donated a sum of ten lakh rupees to the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) to aid the thousands of employees who have lost work due to the coronavirus crisis.

The star family has a philanthropic past. The family has set up two organizations - Agaram Foundation and Uzhavan Foundation. Suriya set up the Agaram Foundation to help underprivileged students gain access to higher education. Karthi set up the Uzhavan Foundation to help farmers. Their donation to the FEFSI will help thousands of workers who are depending on it in this time of crisis.

On the work front, both actors’ projects have come to a halt due to the coronavirus crisis. Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' will now hit theatres on May 1st, 2020.
