While Ranveer Singh plays the role of Kapil Dev, Deepika will essay the role of his wife, Romi Dev, in ‘83. The two have shared screen space before in films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani. So, when it came to the question of working with her husband again, Deepika Padukone told IANS. “It was good. It was a refreshing change because of the kind of films that we have done before. It was a completely different setting, era, characters, costumes, and dialogues. It was refreshing to work with him in this capacity.”
She then went on to talk about the shock they experienced because these characters together were new to them. The characters in ‘83 they had to portray were different in comparison to characters they essayed together before. “We were both surprised. We had to remind ourselves that we had worked with each other before because these characters were so different from what we had already done before and we look forward to working with each other in contemporary films a lot more," the actress said.
Deepika was also asked whether regional films interested her as an actor and a producer. To this she said. "Of course. Language has never been a barrier. I think at the end of the day, what I look for as an actor is exciting content. In fact, there is a lot of south (film directors and writers who approached me. Eventually, I think it's about finding the right content.” Deepika made her acting debut with the 2006 Kannada film "Aishwarya". In her lineup, the actress has the Hindi remake of Hollywood film The Intern. Rishi Kapoor is her co-star in the film
