Deepika Padukone trolled for collaborating with WHO

In the light of the global pandemic, the COVID-19 virus has brought our lives to halt. People in various countries have been losing their lives, and nations are struggling to win the battle against further spread of the virus. With this background, many of us are staying at home to curb down our chances of contracting the virus. The present situation can cause a lot of distress to many, and also elevate anxiety and depression due to isolation. To bring awareness about the causality of this, and also to help people cope with this together, celebrities are trying their best to collaborate with the government to spread a positive word.

As we are well aware, Deepika Padukone, one of the most successful celebrities of Bollywood, has disclosed to us that she underwent depression for a long period of time in her life. The actress always found it essential to do her bit to un-stigmatize mental health conversation, in India. In this pattern, the actress made a recent announcement that she would be collaborating with the WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. They will be discussing the significance of mental health during this pandemic. The conversation is to take place on Instagram on April 23 at 6pm UAE time.

This move by the actress is not well received by many across the country. The primary reason for the trolls is that many uphold WHO responsible for the damage that the pandemic is causing too many nation’s economies at the present moment. People believe that WHO has not acted promptly with warning countries about COVID-19, and that they didn’t check for misinformation wisely. In this light, her conversation with Tedros is receiving a lot of hate.

Take a look at few trolls that have been circulating around social media platforms :

Abhijit Iyer-Mitra’s tweet read, “Tedros has destroyed the Indian economy, condemned us to a spell of depression, the worst affected are the poor, over 100,000 dead worldwide and @deepikapadukone will do a little whitewash of him? ...”

Ajit Kanetkar wrote, “In Maths, 2 negatives make a positive. In this case, 2 negatives, Deepika Padukone & Dr Tedros, make an infinitely bigger negative!”

Pratik Sudra posted, “We are not interested and don’t want to see your live program with WHO...”

One of Deepika’s fans stated, “My respect for Deepika has gone down million times. I will no more watch her movies. Sorry but this is my view.”

Pranav Mahajan’s tweet quotes, “Well it's entirely ur choice @deepikapadukone but kindly give it a thought tht how can people accept the bhakshak (भक्षक) as rakshak (रक्षक). Nobody would like him answering the questions on that programme when he should answer questions regarding his conduct during #COVID19.”

Trolls aren’t new for the actress. However, she hasn’t responded to any yet. On the work front, Deepika’s two upcoming projects, 83 a Kabir Khan directorial and an untitled film by Shakun Batra, are now at halt due to the nation wide lockdown.
