Although it was a commercial flop at the box office, 3 can get counted as one of the best films of Dhanush. The film was ahead of its times. It developed a separate fanbase over the course of these years. This romantic tragedy completed 8 years of its release the other day.
3 had hit the screens on 30th March 2012. Rajinikanth's daughter and Dhanush's wife, Aishwarya made her directorial debut with this movie. 3 traces the love story of Ram (Dhanush) and Janani (Shruti Haasan). They fall for each other right in their teenage. Over a period of time, they start developing feelings on one another and eventually get married. Even though they lead a happy married life, things won't happen in a smooth way in Ram's life. What happened in his life and how it affected their relationship forms the story of its film.
Dhanush gave an extraordinary performance in this movie. You cannot imagine any other actor who is playing such a versatile role. He completely lived in his character. This is easily the best performance of Shruti Haasan in her entire career. Right from the childhood innocence and the grief after marriage, she portrayed her character with complete ease.
Another aspect which was the main pillar of the film was Anirudh Ravichander's music. It was his debut film. Right from world-famous Kolaveri Di to the melodious Po Nee Po, all the songs in this album are nothing less than spectacular. Even the background score was brilliant. Apart from its commercial failure, 3 is still a relatable subject and is often enjoyed by many sections of the new-age audiences.
