Director Vetri Maaran expresses his views about farmer's protest

Farmers across the country have been protesting in the capital Delhi for about two months now. However, last week, the peaceful protest s took a wild turn when fringe groups took over Red Fort. After the violent protests, the Indian government tightened the security and have limited Internet access in the protest area. They are not allowing anyone to reach the protest site. The protest also evoked reactions from pop-artist Rihanna, Mia Khalifa, and several others. Now, director Vetri Maaran has issued a strong statement on farmers' protest.

 
Vetri Maaran took to Facebook and wrote, "Protest is the expression of a People who are not heard otherwise. The power of governance is given to the Government by the People. It should protect the interest of the People. not act as corporate collaborators. Farmers are trying to defend the Spirit of the nation. Protesting for their rights and supporting the protest is democracy." Apart from Vetri Maaran, composer GV Prakash has also spoken about the farmers protest. He wrote, "people have the right to protest. Government should protect the interest of the people, Forcing farmers to accept the new laws is suicide. People Protesting for their rights and is democracy (sic)."
