Dulquer Salmaan's long-pending film Kurup has been lying on the shelves for over a year. The film, directed by Srinath Rajendran, is based on the life of Sukumara Kurup, one of the most wanted gangsters in Kerala. The film was slated to hit the theatres in 2020. However, the makers had to postpone the film's release more than twice due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, reports were doing the rounds that the film might be released on an OTT platform. However, Dulquer Salmaan has confirmed that Kurup Will release in theatres when they reopen in Kerala. Currently, theatres in Kerala are shut due to constant Covid-19 cases and a high positivity rate.
Recently, there were rumors that Prithviraj Sukumaran has been roped in to play a cameo in the film. However, Dulquer Salmaan took to Instagram stories to clear the air. His post read, "It's encouraging to see the buzz around Kurup and I am excited to bring the movie to you guys soon. However, there is a lot of fake information going around right now. When the time is right, you will all get to watch the film and witness who are doing cameos in Kurup (sic)." He added, "However, right now whatever is being spread is not true and I would sincerely request you to stop propagating this information. It isn't fair to the fans of our stars to have expectations and for us to disappoint them. #Kurup (sic)."
