Silambarasan and Gautham Menon initially collaborated on the love drama 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa' in 2010, and the film's enormous success inspired the duo to collaborate on future projects. In 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya,' Silambarasan has a conversation that describes a gangster's life, and the line completely mirrors the plot of 'Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu.'
