Alia Bhatt, who was on a vacation with Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukerji, is back and has started her shoot for the next schedule of Sadak 2 as she has announced in her Instagram story. On Christmas 2019, Alia posted a photograph of her vanity van on her social media, which had a placard of Gangubai, and captioned it, "Look what Santa gave me this year." It was the first day of the actress shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi before she was scheduled to head for her vacation. The team was apparently on a New Year's break and will get back in the next week to begin the next schedule of the film.
A source said that Alia, along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial, will resume the shoot on January 5th. The team is trying to wrap the shoot up by May 2020 as the movie is scheduled to release in theatres on 11th September 2020. A set of the Kamathipura (red light area) of the 40s is also recreated in Mumbai for the film.
The movie is based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai about Gangubai Kathiawadi, a brothel owner and matriarch. Alia Bhatt will share the screen with fellow star Vijay Raaz. Gangubai Kathiawadi is produced by Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada under their respective banners Bhansali Productions and Pen India Limited.
Meanwhile, Alia is also set to appear in Brahmastra with Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan and in Takht with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar.
