On March 22, the 67th National Awards for the films submitted in 2019 were announced at a press conference in Delhi. Nearly seven awards were given to talents from the Tamil film industry. Director Vetri Maaran's Asuran bagged multiple awards and made the entire state and team proud. Asuran was adjudged as the Best Tamil film while Dhanush won the Best Actor award, which he shared it with Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee. Asuran was a top contender at the 67th National Awards in multiple categories. Vetri Maaran, after winning the award, said that this is a huge responsibility and called it a bonus achievement.
He also revealed that Asuran gave him what he wanted in terms of box office success and discussion around caste. Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu revealed that late director Balu Mahendra got him his first National Award for the film Vanna Vanna Pookal, which released in 1992. Now, Balu Mahendra's disciple Vetri Maaran has got his second National Award after 30 years with Asura. Thanu said he was confident of Asuran performing well and winning awards. Thanu also credited Vetri Maaran for all the glory.
