Iconic Malayalam composer MK Arjunan is no more

Legendary Malayalam music director MK Arjunan is no more. The iconic music composer passed away earlier this morning at his home in Kochi. The whole Malayalam industry is mourning the death of Arjunan.

MK Arjunan is fondly called as Arjunan Master by the people of Kerala. In a career spanning over 59 years, Arjunan composed more than 700 songs. Many of those songs are classics in Malayalam cinema. He is often considered as one of the greatest composers of Malayalam cinema, along with legends like G. Devarajan, V. Dakshinamoorthy, K. Raghvan, and M.S. Baburaj.

Arjunan had his guru Devarajan's influence on him. Most of their songs sound similar. Throughout his career, Arjunan composed only original songs. He never copied any tune nor got inspired as well. All his compositions were purely original. That aspect makes him stand out from the rest of the composers.

Some of his notable works include Mallikappoovin Madhura gingham(Honeymoon), Chembaka Thaikal booth(Kathirunna Nimiaham), Nin Maniyarayile(CID Nazir), Yadukula Rathidevane vide(Rest House), Kasthoori Manakkunnallo karate (Picnic).

Arjunan is also one of the first composers to recognize AR Rahman. He offered Rahman to play Keyboard for his songs. We all know how popular Rahman has now become all over the world. Arjunan won Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director for the 2017 film Bhayanakam.

The entire Malayalam film industry is quite shocked by the demise of the 84-year-old composer. The final rights of MK Arjunan will get held either today or tomorrow. We pray that his soul may rest in peace.
