Iconic playwriter and actor Girish Karnad dies at 81
Today (June 10) is a black day in Indian cinema as a famous actor and playwriter Girish Karnad has breathed his last at his Bengaluru residence. At 6:30 AM, he dies due to prolonged illness.
He has worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films as well. In Telugu, he is known for his performance namely Shankardada MBBS, Komaram Puli, Premikudu and Dharmachakram.
He has been awarded Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in the years 1974 and 1992 respectively. He was also given the Jnanipith in 1988 for his excellence in literature and art.
His last wish was was that no flowers should be kept on his body and no VIPs should be allowed to pay homage. He was cremated at a crematorium in East Godavari this evening.
