Directed by K.V. Reddy, Mayabazar released on 27th March 1957. Upon its release, the film received a tremendous response from the audiences. It is a fictional take on one of the segments of Mahabharata. NTR played the role of Lord Krishna in the movie. SV Ranga Rao played the role of Ghatotkacha and Savitri played the role of Sasirekha. Akkineni Nageshwara Rao essayed the character of Abhimanyu in Telugu while Gemini Ganesan played the same role in the Tamil version.
The Tamil version released two weeks after the release of the Telugu version. It also remained a successful venture at the box office. When there are no computer graphics, the makers of Mayabazar have successfully put in the visual effects in the movie. Thus, it is still considered a landmark film in the Indian Cinema. In 2010, it got released in a remastered colour version.
In 2013 CNN-News 18's poll, Mayabazar got voted as the Greatest Indian Film of all-time. Even the music composed by Ghantasala and Saluri Rajeshwara Rao was a huge hit.
