Jagapathi Babu explains how Shubhalagnam helped producer Ashwini Dutt to bounce back hard from a huge loss

Success and failures are a part of the showbiz business. One success is not enough to make you a star and one failure cannot take away your stardom. This is what proved by ace producer Ashwini Dutt. As his production house, Vyjayanthi Movies is celebrating 30 years anniversary, his team is running a special series on the films bankrolled by him. Today, they came up with an interesting story about the success of Shubhalagnam. This story got narrated by none other than Jagapati Babu.

The video starts off with Jagapathi Babu talking about the film Govinda Govinda. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, this film featured Nagarjuna and Sridevi in the lead roles. It got made on a lavish budget by Ashwini Dutt. The team pinned a lot of hopes on it. But it first faced a hurdle from the censor board. The board members said that 50% of the film should get chopped off. The makers had to plead the board to get a clearance certificate. After clearing all the hurdles. Govinda Govinda had hit the theaters. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a flop at the box office.

Generally, industry people would not care about the producers in flops. But director SV Krishna Reddy, who was on a success streak at that time, called up Ashwini Dutt and came up with a film proposal. That is how Shubalagnam got made. This family drama starring Jagapathi Babu, Aamani, and Roja in the lead roles went on to become a huge blockbuster at the box office. It bagged many awards and got remade in different languages. Thus, a film made on a small budget collected more than the film made on a heavy budget. Sometimes, God tests our patience only to reap better results in the coming days, said Jagapathi Babu while signing off.
