Superstar Rajinikanth was last seen in director AR Murugadoss's Darbar, which released for Pongal 2020. Though his next film was slated to release for Diwali 2020, the film had to be postponed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Rajinikanth joined hands with director Siruthai Siva for a family entertainer titled Annaatthe. The film is being made on a mammoth budget by Sun Pictures. The shooting of Annaatthe resumed in Chennai at a private film city on March 15. Soon, photos from the Annatthe shooting spot will be shared by the production house.

Yesterday (March 16), the makers of Annaatthe revealed that Jagapathi Babu is also a part of Annaatthe and welcomed him on board with a social media post. At this point, it is unclear if he plays a negative role or not. Sharing a video with Jagapathi Babu's post, Sun Pictures wrote, ".@IamJagguBhai joins the cast of #Annaatthe. @rajinikanth @directorsiva @immancomposer #Nayanthara @KeerthyOfficial (sic)." Annaatthe's cast features Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Meena, Khushbu, Prakash Raj and Soori in pivotal roles. The commercial entertainer has music scored by composer D Imman.
