Kamal Haasan And Shankar’s Indian 2 Looks For A Festive Release Next Year

In 2017, Kamal Hasaan and Shankar shocked the Indian film industry when they announced a sequel to their 1996 cult smash, Indian. The vigilante drama was one of the first from the Tamil Film Industry to cross the regional barrier and become what is now known as a Pan India Blockbuster. The film began production in 2019; however, it was halted due to a budget issue during the pandemic. Following the remarkable success of Vikram, Indian 2 finally got back on track when production started in September.

The production has been in full gear since then, with Kamal Haasan, Kajal Agarwal, and the entire team, with the goal of wrapping by the first quarter of 2023. "Around 75 to 85 days of filming remained until the team took the film back on floors, and the aim is to call it a wrap by March next year," a source close to the development disclosed, adding that the lengthy post-production process will begin once the shoot is complete.

"This film, like all Shankar films, includes many visual effects." While it does not have as much VFX as Enthiran or 2.0 because the basis of the screenplay is replete with drama in the vigilante space, there are some action scenes and songs that require special effects. "The team is aiming for a Dussehra or Diwali 2023 rollout across the country," said the source. Essentially, this large-scale vigilante drama would have a late October/early November release date.
