Karthik Naren’s Naragasooran goes straight to OTT Platforms

Karthik Naren directed a few short films such as Pradhi and Nirangal Moondru before his grand debut on the silver screens. He made his directorial debut with the neo-noir crime thriller Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru in 2016. The film received both critical and commercial success. The film crossed the 100-day mark at the box office and was one of the highest-grossing films of 2016. In 2017, Naren announced that he is working on his second film titled 'Naragasooran'. Actors Aravind Swamy, Shriya Saran, Sundeep Kishan, Aathmika and Indrajith Sukumaran were to star in the film. The young director’s most anticipated film has still not hit theatres three years after the announcement. The latest buzz on the rumor mill is that 'Naragasooran' will not have a theatrical release. It might be directly released on OTT platforms.

Many reasons have halted the release over the last three years. One major obstacle was the lack of funds. The issue was however resolved. The film is set to release on March 27th, 2020. Now, with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, it seems like the film might not hit the theatres at all. The delays have pushed Karthik Naren to consider other options. He recently conducted a poll on Instagram. He asked his audience if they will appreciate the release of 'Naragasooran' on OTT sites. The poll revealed that a majority of the audience is positive about an OTT release. Karthik Naren is yet to make an official announcement.
Considering the climate, there is a high chance that Naragasooran will not have a theoretical release.
Meanwhile, Naren’s Mafia Chapter 1 hit theatres last month. The film starring Arun Vijay, Prasanna, and Priya Bhavani Shankar has received a positive response from the audience and the critics.
