Lionsgate is now preparing a sequel to its hit film Knives Out. Two of its top executives confirmed the news.
CEO Jon Feltheimer and Motion Picture Group Chairman Joe Drake held a conference call with Wall Street analysts on Thursday. They confirmed that the studio is planning production works for a second Knives Out and for John Wick 4. John Wick 4 starring Keanu Reeves is already booked for a May 21, 2021 release. The third part, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, hit the theatres worldwide in May 2019. It grossed $326 million during its run in theatres. Feltheimer mentioned that Knives Out will soon break $300 million at the worldwide box office. It received three Golden Globes nominations. Writer-director Rian Johnson received an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Screenplay category for the murder mystery. The film stars Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, and Ana de Armas.
Feltheimer also said the movie “serves as further proof that franchises can emerge from any of our content verticals.” Johnson indicated in interviews earlier that he wanted to make a sequel with Craig’s Benoit Blanc character investigating a new case. Lionsgate and MRC led the production of Knives Out for a reported $40 million.
