Legendary singer SP Balasubramanyam is a man who has found a place in everyone's heart with his mellifluous voice. However, 2020 was cruel enough to take him and his voice away from us. Last year, he was admitted to a private hospital dafter testing positive for the novel coronavirus. Though he recovered from the virus, he breathed his last on September 25, 2020, due to coronavirus complications. Yesterday, S Balasubrahmanyam's fans had great news to rejoice. One can call it a fitting honour for the singer who has worked for over five decades.
On January 25, SP Balasubrahmanyam was awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously. He won the Padma Bhushan award 10 years ago. In his five-decade-long career, SPB had won six national awards and 25 Nandi awards. He also had created a Guinness World record for singing over 40,000 songs in his career. Apart from singing Tamil songs, he has also sung songs in other languages such as Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. SP Balasubrahmanyam was also known for his work as a voice artist and an actor. Some of his important films include Keladi Kanmani, Kadhalan, Thiruda Thiruda, and Ullasam to name a few.
