Lisa Ray Talks About Fighting And Defeating Cancer

Lisa Ray, the Indo-Canadian actor, has triumphed over a rare type of bone marrow cancer. The type was considered incurable. Lisa, who turned 51 on Tuesday, disclosed her experience in her memoir, Close to the Bone, which was published in 2019. She confessed that she gained 40 pounds before her first red-carpet event after her diagnosis.

According to an excerpt from her memoir, Lisa dreaded the red carpet. It was because she felt self-conscious and the event's expectations were high. She revealed that her belly was prominent under her sari-inspired royal purple dress. It was specially made for her new body by her costume designer friend, Rashmi Varma.

Lisa had to try on several pairs of heels from her closet but couldn't find a comfortable fit because of her bloated feet. It was caused by the side effects of steroids she was taking. She described her swollen face as a large, round moon, and her body as having an extra elastic skin on top of her skin, which she named "my wet suit."

Lisa was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare type of cancer that affects the bone marrow, in June 2009. She recovered three years later, but she relapsed around the time of her wedding to Jason Dehni in 2012. Lisa took several months to fight the disease once more and emerged stronger than ever.

Lisa and Jason have two daughters, Sufi and Soleil, who were born in 2018 via surrogacy. Recently, Lisa attended the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre Gala event in Mumbai. She was last seen in Prime Video's Four More Shots Please Season 2.
