Kannathil Muthamittal is the story of a little girl who goes to Sri Lanka along with her parents in search of her biological mother. Along with Madhavan, the film featured Simran, Nanditha Das and PS Keerthana in the other lead roles. The film deals with the controversial subject of Tamil rebels in Srilanka. Mani Ratnam is a king of showing serious situations in an emotional backdrop. He did that in Nayagan, Thapalathy, Iruvar and Kannathil Muthamittal. Thus, this film goes in the list of one of his best works. It also remained as one of the landmark films in the career of Madhavan.
The Sakhi actor was last seen in the 2018 film Zero. His next film is Nishabdham in which Anushka played the lead role. This film was actually supposed to hit the screens on April 2. But due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it got postponed indefinitely. Madhavan has another film in the kitty, called Rocketry.
