Every year, the organizers of the Jio MAMI International Film Festival give a tribute to a particular filmmaker by screening a few of his best works. This time, they chose legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen and are screening his classic Bhuvan Shome. Mrinal, who directed many Indian classics, has passed away last year.
Released in 1969, Bhuvan Shome deals with the story of a lonely railway officer who goes on a vacation to a Gujarathi village. There he encounters a village belle who changes his perspective towards life and makes him develop empathy towards people. She also deepens his sense of loneliness. The film won three national awards for Best Feature Film, Best Actor and Best Director.
Utpal Dutt's impeccable acting complimented by Mrinal's flawless storytelling made Bhuvan Shome an all-time classic. Many old film lovers are eagerly waiting to catch this film at the festival. MAMI will begin on the 17th of October and will conclude on the 24th of October.
