Mani Ratnam Resumes Ponniyin Selvan film In Pondicherry

Director Mani Ratnam has been waiting with bated breath to adapt Ponniyin Selvan into a film. After struggling for 10 years, he managed to assemble a team for Ponniyin. The film went on floors last year in Thailand. Ponniyin Selvan is a Tamil literary novel written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. The five-book novel captures the fall of the Chola dynasty. Mani Ratnam is making a period film titled Ponniyin Selvan with an ensemble cast of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Ashwin Kakumanu in prominent roles. Ponniyin Selvan has music composed by AR Rahman.

Ahead of the second wave of the Covid-19 lockdown, Mani Ratnam wrapped up a major schedule in Hyderabad. Nearly after four months, Mani Ratnam resumed the shooting of Ponniyin Selvan in Pondicherry. After completing a short schedule of Ponniyin Selvan, he will move to Hyderabad for a month-long schedule. Produced by Lyca Productions, Ponniyin Selvan is slated to hit the theatres in 2022. An official confirmation regarding Ponniyin Selvan's release date will be announced once the team wraps up the shooting.
