Mani Ratnam Reveals Why Vairamuthu Is Not A Part Of Ponniyin Selvan

Legendary lyricists Vairamuthu, Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman have given us countless hit songs over the years. In 2019, reports were rife that Vairamuthu will pen the lyrics for 12 songs in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan. Soon, netizens called out Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman for working with Vairamuthu, who is a #MeToo accused. When the film was officially announced, Vairamuthu's name was left out. Mani Ratnam, in a recent interaction, revealed why he didn't collaborate with Vairamuthu for Ponniyin Selvan.

At a press conference in Chennai, Mani Ratnam said, "Tamil (the language) has been here for several centuries. Over the years, many new directors and technicians have come and made a name for themselves. There is a lot of wealth in Tamil. There is no doubt about Vairamuthu's talent, which was also recognised by Kalaignar Karunanidhi. I have worked with him so many times. Rahman and I used much of his poetry in our films. He's fantastic. Tamil is a rich language. There are new talents beyond Vairamuthu as well. New talents will keep coming."
